Bowen can be done over light clothing, for example leggings, and a t-shirt. Loose cotton clothing is ideal. Please avoid wearing nightwear or jeans. It may be necessary that some moves are performed directly on your skin. Please bring a towel for your own personal comfort.
If you feel uncomfortable lying down, the treatment can be done while seated. Please discuss with your Therapist any adjustments that are required to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.
The Therapist will leave the room for a few minutes following each set of movements. This is to your body’s response to the performed movements, and allow these to be absorbed and recorded by the brain and thus begin the healing process. The pauses are the key element of the Bowen Technique that are unique but make the difference.
1st Session
This appointment can take up to 90 minutes. The Bowen therapist will take a full medical history from you and discuss the nature of the problem you are seeking support with. You may also receive a questionnaire for completion before the initial session, to allow the practitioner fully to understand your problem and prepare the best practice treatment. This session will allow you and the therapist to plan the recovery journey.
The Subsequent Session
The treatment takes about 45 minutes. The amount of work done during this session will be determined by your condition and body outcome to the previously performed session.
Session Maintenance
In many cases the pain relief is experienced on first visit. The body needs 3-4 days to adopt, absorb and restore itself following the treatment.
It is highly advised to drink plenty of water following the treatment. You may feel tired or energetic, this will all be the body’s natural response. You may be given specific exercises to perform at home for some conditions.
